Updated 3:51 p.m. | Former Rep. John D. Dingell is in good spirits following a heart procedure, but will remain in the hospital and undergo a second procedure.  

The retired lawmaker’s wife, Rep. Debbie Dingell, who succeeded him in Congress to representing Michigan’s 12th District, tweeted Tuesday evening that the congressman was resting comfortably following the procedure and was his usual “grouchy self.”

According to the congresswoman’s office, the angiogram at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit confirmed the former Dean of the House did not have a silent heart attack. He will undergo a second procedure Friday to implant a new device.  

“Both of us deeply appreciate the prayers and good wishes. They mean a lot,” she said.  

The 89-year-old took to his Twitter account Wednesday for some typical levity.

It wasn’t a heart attack, but doctors are recommending I do all I can to try to forget the end of that Lions game. Here for a few more days.

He is expected to remain in the hospital for a few more days.
