Candidate Starts Leadership PAC Before Winning

In an optimistic move, a Congressional candidate has registered a leadership PAC before winning a seat in Congress.

Republican state senator Mimi Walters , R-Calif., has registered  BOL-PAC – Blessings of Liberty PAC,  as a leadership PAC with the Federal Election Commission.

Walters is running in California’s 45th Congressional District to fill the seat being vacated by the retirement of Rep. John Campbell, R-Calif. She has reported receipts of $869,297 through May 14th, including $230,356 from PACs and other committees. Her campaign spent $703,368, and it has $165,929 cash on hand as of May 14th.

Several current members of Congress have started leadership PCs in June. These include Rep. Jared Huffman , D-Calif., who started Clean PAC; Sen. Edward Markey , D-Mass., who started Educate and Innovate PAC; Rep. Lou Barletta , R-Pa., who started Leaders Only Unite PAC aka Lou PAC; and Rep. Susan Brooks , R-Ind., who started Supporting United States of America’s Next Leaders PAC (Susan PAC).
