Every week, HOH gets to know a Member of Congress better through a series of five fun questions. This week, Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (Wash.), the House Republican Conference vice chairwoman, talks about the Beatles and working the drive-thru at McDonald’s.


Q: What was your favorite childhood cartoon?

A: I think Bugs Bunny.

Q: If you could see one band live, either broken up or still together, who would it be?

A: I think I’ll go with the Beatles.

Q: Seattle’s Best Coffee or Starbucks?

A: Starbucks. Starbucks was where I was first introduced to the nonfat vanilla latte as well as the mocha mint chocolate chip.

Q: What’s your favorite book dealing with a presidential campaign?  

A: I enjoyed reading Karen Hughes’ book when she was [on] George W. Bush’s campaign. I remember at one point she referred to it as being on the ‘merry-go-round, going round and round.’

Q: You once worked in a fruit orchard, at a McDonald’s and as a housekeeper. Which one was your favorite?

A: I’d say working at McDonald’s. I enjoyed the drive-thru. It was always a challenge to see how quickly we could take the orders, fill the orders, and get the cars through. It brought out my competitive streak.
