Speaker John Boehner is expected to raise almost a quarter of a million dollars Tuesday in California at a fundraiser hosted by a Hewlett-Packard Co. executive.

The Ohio Republican, who is entering traditional Democratic fundraising territory with the event, is expected to raise more than $200,000, according to sources familiar with the fundraiser. It will be held at the Menlo Park home of HP Executive Vice President and General Counsel Michael Holston, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

The Speaker is excited to engage with the tech community, according to Boehner spokesman Cory Fritz.

“As someone who understands the link between innovation and economic growth, Speaker Boehner is looking forward to talking about GOP plans to help end economic uncertainty and create jobs with leaders of Silicon Valley,” Fritz said in a statement. He declined to discuss how much money Boehner would raise during the trip.

Boehner has led House Republicans’ fundraising efforts this year.

During the first three months of 2011, Boehner raised $2.4 million through his re-election committee and another $2 million through his Boehner for Speaker committee. His leadership political action committee, the Freedom Project, collected $441,000 in the first quarter of the year.

Between the three fundraising committees he collected about $692,000 from political action committees in the period. Boehner’s committees collectively showed more than $2.7 million in cash on hand as of March 31.
