Rep. Betty McCollum is taking on NASCAR and the military.

The Minnesota Democrat proposed an amendment to the continuing resolution that would ban the military from spending money to sponsor NASCAR race cars, according to Yahoo Sports. The article calls the move a “curious” one, saying NASCAR and the military go together like “peanut butter and jelly” or “screaming and beer.”

NASCAR spokesman Ramsey Poston tweeted his dismay over the amendment. “NASCAR fans are the type of people who fight America’s wars,” he posted. He also noted that one in five fans of the popular sport have served or are currently serving in the military.

McCollum Chief of Staff Bill Harper fired back. “I would challenge the Pentagon to give me one example of someone today in Iraq or Afghanistan who saw the Go Army car going around the race track and that’s why they joined the Army,” he told the Virginian-Pilot newspaper.
