A rock “super group” is coming to town next month — and it is aiming to make Members of Congress and political VIPs its audience.

The rock outfit Camp Freddy, a cover band made up of established rock stars such as Jane’s Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro, will perform a one-night show March 3 at the 9:30 Club. The star-studded event is being held to celebrate the new Congress, organizers say, noting it will be the first time Camp Freddy has performed in Washington.

But it’s also a charitable effort. A portion of the proceeds will go to the nonprofit Rivers of Recovery, which helps disabled veterans heal though outdoor recreational activities.

Doug Davenport, whose production company, NBAGT Productions, is helping put on the show, says band members are looking forward to helping the vets.

“Really, a lot of these events just become parties without causes,” Davenport says. “We wanted this to be an event with a good cause.”

Davenport promised that the five band members — Navarro and musicians Billy Morrison, Matt Sorum, Donovan Leitch Jr. and Chris Chaney — will bring along a few surprise guests.
