Greene Indicted on Felony Obscenity Charge

South Carolina’s surprise Senate nominee, Alvin Greene, has been indicted on one felony count and one misdemeanor count, the Associated Press reported Friday.

Court records show a grand jury in Richland County, S.C., handed down the indictment Friday. The felony charge: disseminating, procuring or promoting obscenity. The misdemeanor charge: communicating obscene materials to a person without consent.

The charges stem from accusations that Greene showed pornography to a South Carolina college student.

Greene won the Democratic nomination for the Senate after a primary campaign so low-key that it appears to have involved nothing beyond paying the filing fee. Local Democrats subsequently asked him to step aside, but he refused.
