Former Sen. Bob Kerrey (D-Neb.) will not be the next CEO of the Motion Picture Association of America, the trade association said Thursday.

“The Motion Picture Association of America, Inc. today announced that the MPAA Board and former Senator Bob Kerrey have agreed to end negotiations regarding the position of Chief Executive Officer of the MPAA,” a statement reads. “The search process for a new CEO will continue.”

For months, Kerrey has been the lead candidate to replace recently departed CEO Dan Glickman, a former Clinton administration official and Democratic Representative from Kansas. In mid-July, Kerrey told radio host Don Imus that he was “in the final stages of negotiating” a contract to run the organization.
