Young to Undergo Back Surgery

Rep. Bill Young will have back surgery this week to relieve a slipped disc, his office announced Monday.

According to a statement from his office, the 79-year-old Florida Republican “has been experiencing an increasing level of discomfort related to pressure the bulging disk has placed on nerves in his lower back. The problem has grown worse over the past two weeks and doctors conducted tests to evaluate the situation. Based on CT scan and MRI results, they recommended surgery to alleviate the pain.”

Young’s office said he expects to have the surgery Tuesday or Wednesday and plans to be back at work when Congress returns from its August recess.
