Florida: Black’s Sandbag Stunt Doesn’t Amuse Brown

The Republican hoping to unseat Rep. Corrine Brown (D) appears to have touched a nerve with a stunt intended to both draw attention to his campaign and remind voters of a not-so-long-ago time when they may have been peeved at the incumbent.

Brown’s house got a special delivery of sandbags during Tropical Storm Fay in 2008.

GOP candidate Dean Black now is asking backers to donate $24.95 to his campaign for each sandbag they’d like him to deliver to Brown.

When a local TV station asked the Congresswoman about Black’s fundraising gimmick, she didn’t try to hide her irritation. When asked whether she’d call the police on a Black delivery, she said, “Absolutely. There’s no question.”

“Just stay away from me and my property,” she said.

Brown’s rival for the Democratic nomination, Scott Fortune, told the Florida Times-Union: “A community leader should not mock an elderly woman who, in fear when an approaching storm was threatening her home, was helped by the city. He should instead ask why the city could not help ALL of our elderly when disaster threatens them.”
