Tea party activist Peter Schiff, who didn’t get enough convention votes for a place in the Republican primary, petitioned his way onto the ballot Monday.

“Connecticut Republicans now have a alternative: a wrestling promoter or a businessman and economist,” Schiff said in a news release announcing that his campaign had exceeded the minimum 8,268 signatures.

Already on the ballot are frontrunner Linda McMahon, former CEO of World Wrestling Entertainment, and former Rep. Rob Simmons.

Within days of losing the convention endorsement, Simmons suspended his campaign, citing the “mathematical reality” of competing against an opponent with “unlimited financial resources who has already invested over 16 and a half million dollars in this campaign … and who has an unlimited ability to continue spending at an extraordinary rate.”

The winner of the primary will go up against Attorney General Richard Blumenthal (D).
