Radio-TV Correspondents Rap Gainer Over Gallery Hiring

The Radio-Television Correspondents Association said Friday it is “appalled” that Senate Sergeant-at-Arms Terrance Gainer unilaterally offered an outside candidate the position of Senate Gallery deputy director.

Members of the association’s executive committee planned to meet with Gainer at 1:30 p.m. Friday to attempt to work out a compromise. In a draft letter to Gainer, the committee demands that he withdraw the offer of employment and “restore the traditional role” of the committee’s involvement in the process.

The association is “appalled at the lack of transparency in the hiring of a Senate Gallery Deputy Director and the utter disregard of the traditional role of the Executive Committee in making all hires,” the letter reads. It goes on to assert that Gainer’s office has “shut down” communication with the committee.
