Prosecutor Trey Gowdy (R) is up with the first television ad of his primary campaign to knock off Rep. Bob Inglis (R-S.C.).

Gowdy does not mention Inglis by name in the 30-second spot but slams him indirectly for his perceived slide to the center since returning to Congress in 2005. Inglis also served a six-year stint in the House in the 1990s.

“It’s time for a representative in Washington who won’t change,” Gowdy says to the camera. “A leader who won’t side with the Democrats on the bailout, global warming, troop surge or government health care.”

“Washington will never change me,” Gowdy promises as the ad ends.

The Greenville, S.C., native represents the biggest threat to Inglis’ re-election in the solidly Republican 4th district. Gowdy was one of the best-funded House primary challengers at the end of 2009.

Several other Republicans are also competing for the party’s nomination in the June 8 primary.
