Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) joined the chorus of GOP Senators pressuring Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) to hold a Monday evening vote on the financial bailout plan.

After the Senate voted Monday afternoon to move forward on the Amtrak bill, McConnell repeatedly questioned Reid on when the Senate would move to the rescue plan. McConnell said that because of the dire instability in the markets, the Senate should vote on the measure as soon as the House sends it over.

But Reid said he would stick with the Wednesday vote because the Senate needed time to debate the bill.

“It’s inappropriate to charge into this without having the ability to work on it,” Reid said.

The Senate is not scheduled to be in session Tuesday because of Rosh Hashana.
