Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) will take her political star power to Kentucky this weekend to help Democratic Senate candidate Bruce Lunsford in his quest to unseat her chamber’s Republican leader, Sen. Mitch McConnell.

Clinton, back in the Senate full time after having abandoned her 2008 White House bid in June, will headline two campaign rallies for Lunsford, first in Pikeville and later in Lexington. Lunsford is a well-financed businessman who is aiming to topple McConnell this November, but the Senate Minority Leader has held the advantage.

In recent weeks, Clinton as begun campaigning for her fellow Democrats, most prominently for her one-time rival, Sen. Barack Obama (Ill.). Clinton’s support for Obama has been viewed as critical as he looks to shore up unity in the party and take on a newly minted GOP ticket that includes Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as its vice presidential pick.
