House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers (D-Mich.) is seeking to haul another ex-administration official before Congressional Democrats, but this witness may come willingly.

Conyers has invited former Bush administration spokesman and newly published author Scott McClellan to appear before his committee on June 20.

Conyers wants McClellan to testify about a purported attempt to cover up the role of the White House in leaking the identity of former CIA officer Valerie Plame. McClellan reported in his new book that Bush administration officials like Vice President Cheney’s former chief of staff, Lewis “Scooter” Libby, and former political guru Karl Rove were not honest with him about their roles in the Plame incident.

“I have extended an invitation to Mr. McClellan to testify before the Judiciary Committee after discussions between Committee staff and his attorneys,” Conyers said. “In his book, Mr. McClellan suggests that senior White House officials may have obstructed justice and engaged in a cover-up regarding the Valerie Plame leak. This alleged activity could well extend beyond the scope of the offenses for which Scooter Libby has been convicted and deserves further attention.”
